TMC accuses BJP of 'state-sponsored terror' after Tripura office vandalism

The TMC on Wednesday hit out at the BJP over the vandalism at its Tripura unit office, alleging that "state-sponsored political terrorism" had been unleashed in the northeastern state under the saffron party's rule. Addressing a press conference at the Trinamool Bhavan here, West Bengal minister Shashi Panja said a five-member TMC delegation had left for Tripura to meet party workers and assess the situation on the ground following Monday's attack at Banamalipur in Agartala, the home constituency of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb. "There is an intolerant and violent BJP government in Tripura. The incident that occurred on Monday demonstrates how those who claim to protect democracy are behaving otherwise. Infiltration attempts by terrorists from Pakistan occupied Kashmir have not succeeded due to alertness of security forces and use of modern surveillance gadgets along the Line of Control in Kashmir, a senior BSF officer asserted on Wednesday. IG, Border Security Force (BSF), Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav also said that there are intelligence inputs that terrorists are waiting at the launch pads on the other side of the LoC. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday accused the UDF-led opposition of creating a "smokescreen" over the Sabarimala gold-plating issue and said the government is not scared of any such attempts. Banks like SBI well versed to handle acquisition financing: C S Setty

Days after the Reserve Bank's decision to allow banks to allow acquisition financing, SBI chairman C S Setty on Wednesday said entities like the country's largest lender are "well versed" to handle the upcoming line of business. He said the shift to an expected credit loss (ECL) based system of asset provisioning will not impact the balance sheets of banks, given the extended transition period given by the central bank. "We have been doing outbound merger and acquisition financing for Indian corporates acquiring overseas entities. I think banks like SBI are well versed in acquisition financing," Setty told reporters on the sidelines of the annual Global Fintech Fest (GFF) here. It is worth noting that the Reserve Bank had announced a decision to allow banks to engage in acquisition financing, following a public request made by Setty itself a few weeks ago. Raja Nihal Hettiarachchi who is the founder of Nihal Hettiarachchi & Company, is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. He completed article ship at KPMG, Ford Rhodes, Thornton & Company and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1976, at the age of 23 years. Then he served McCallum Breweries (Cey.) Group as the group financial controller and S.Savarimuttu & Company, a Firm of chartered Accountants as a Partner. Nihal Hettiarachchi has had wide and varied experience in the field of Accountancy, Auditing, Taxation and Management, and counts over thirty years of experience, including four years with Coopers & Lybrand, Zambia. He was also associated with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Maldives, as a consultant for a period of two years. He served as a senior member, the Examination Committee and Taxation Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Ms. Ishani Hettiarachchi has extensive and diverse experience in serving various areas in the private sector. She completed her primary and secondary education at St. Bridget’s College, Colombo. She carried her professional education at the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA).

As the Deputy CEO of the RNH Group and the Chairman of RNH Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, she is responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of the business, in line with the Strategic Framework, risk appetite and annual and long-term objectives of the Company.

With over 20 years of experience she has gathered a wealth of knowledge in her respective field and is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries of Sri Lanka. She has exposure in auditing diverse industries such as manufacturing, construction, leisure, healthcare, transportation, not- for -profit and other service providers.
